“Poiché commetto ripetutamente errori visivi nella mia vita quotidiana, a volte mi ritrovo a dubitare della struttura stessa dei miei occhi.

Un ‘errore di lettura’ o un’illusione ottica è semplicemente un fenomeno che si verifica in una specifica serie di condizioni fisiche e psicologiche; normalmente, si dovrebbe semplicemente mantenere la calma e ricontrollare. Eppure, trovo quasi assurdo come spesso non riesca a farlo, e mi affretto invece ad affermare ‘L’ho visto!’ o ‘Sono stato io!’ mentre l’informazione è ancora oscuro.

Mi sono chiesto se questa scultura potesse esprimere in modo condiviso questo pensiero: una contemplazione della ‘struttura interna dell’occhio’, un’entità che sembra così semplice, eppure è abbastanza complessa da innescare tali fenomeni.”

Because I repeatedly make visual errors in my everyday life, I sometimes find myself doubting the very structure of my eyes.

A ‘reading error’ or an optical illusion is simply a phenomenon that occurs under a specific set of physical and psychological conditions; normally, one should simply stay calm and check again. And yet, I find it almost absurd how often I fail to do so, instead rushing to state ‘I saw it!’ or ‘It was me!’ while the information is still unclear.

I have wondered whether this sculpture might express this thought in a shared way: a contemplation of the ‘inner structure of the eye’, an entity that seems so simple, and yet is complex enough to trigger such phenomena.”

Ko Yamazaki (Kyoto, Giappone, 1969)

Ha studiato a Parigi e in California. Durante i suoi viaggi, ha sperimentato diverse tecniche e ha potuto esplorare il suo rapporto con l’arte occidentale e orientale. Ha esposto in tutto il mondo e ora divide il suo tempo tra Kyoto e Pietrasanta. Ha ricevuto premi dalla Fondazione Bettencourt e Kobe Bussan. Ha esposto sculture non solo in Giappone ma anche in Australia, Inghilterra, Italia e Francia.

He studied in Paris and in California. During his travels, he explored a variety of techniques and deepened his understanding of both Western and Eastern art traditions.

He has exhibited worldwide and now divides his time between Kyoto and Pietrasanta.

He has received awards from the Fondazione Bettencourt Schueller and Kobe Bussan. His sculptures have been exhibited not only in Japan but also in Australia, England, Italy, and France.
