“Portal” è stata scolpita senza alcun riferimento o modello; le forme si sono rivelate organicamente in un blocco di 2,6 metri di splendido marmo bianco di Carrara. La creazione di questa imponente scultura, durata 9 mesi, è stata accompagnata dalla ricerca di Jacob sulle chiavi dell’abbondanza e della prosperità. I ​​suoi viaggi paralleli di creazione e scoperta sembravano intrecciarsi, a volte diventando un tutt’uno. Il titolo “Portal” è un simbolo del passaggio di Jacob verso una comprensione più profonda e l’incarnazione dei principi della prosperità, mentre riconosceva la ricchezza costantemente disponibile attraverso la sua interazione con il mondo che lo circondava.

“Portal” was carved without any reference or model; its forms emerged organically from a 2.6 metre block of exquisite white Carrara marble. The creation of this monumental sculpture, which took nine months to complete, was accompanied by Jacob’s exploration of the keys to abundance and prosperity.

His parallel journeys of making and discovery seemed to intertwine, sometimes becoming one and the same.

The title “Portal” symbolizes Jacob’s passage toward a deeper understanding and embodiment of the principles of prosperity, while recognizing the ever-present richness available through his interaction with the world around him.

Appartiene alla terza generazione di una famiglia di artisti. La sua formazione si sviluppa, sin dall’infanzia, in ambito familiare, mentre il percorso musicale segue un iter accademico strutturato.

Nel 1994 viene ammesso al Victorian College of the Arts per gli studi secondari a indirizzo musicale; successivamente prosegue la formazione presso la Interlochen Arts Academy (USA), con borsa di studio completa. A sedici anni è ammesso al corso terziario di Composizione musicale presso il Victorian College of the Arts.

L’attività artistica di Cartwright si caratterizza per l’integrazione tra scultura, suono e fenomeni di risonanza, sviluppata attraverso una ricerca che coniuga pratica plastica e dimensione performativa. 

Attualmente opera prevalentemente a Pietrasanta (LU), dove realizza opere in marmo proveniente dalle cave delle Alpi Apuane. Oltre al marmo, Cartwright ama lavorare elementi lignei antichi e materiali di recupero.

La sua produzione comprende sculture monumentali, installazioni sonore e interventi site-specific, con una ricerca orientata al rapporto tra forma, materia, spazio e percezione. Le opere presentano un linguaggio contemporaneo con particolare attenzione al dialogo con il contesto architettonico e paesaggistico. Le sue opere sono state esposte in contesti istituzionali e galleristici internazionali, tra cui: Asia Society Hong Kong, Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, Barcelona SWAB Art Fair,Australia House.

Ha inoltre presentato installazioni e performance in Italia, Germania e Finlandia e ha preso parte a residenze artistiche internazionali in Europa e negli Stati Uniti. Le sue opere risultano presenti in collezioni private in Europa, Stati Uniti, Asia e Australia.

He belongs to the third generation of a family of artists. His training began in early childhood within the family environment, while his musical education followed a structured academic path.

In 1994, he was admitted to the Victorian College of the Arts for secondary studies with a focus on music. He later continued his education at the Interlochen Arts Academy on a full scholarship. At the age of sixteen, he was admitted to the tertiary Composition program at the Victorian College of the Arts.

Cartwright’s artistic practice is characterized by the integration of sculpture, sound, and resonance phenomena, developed through a research process that combines sculptural practice with performative dimensions.

He currently works mainly in Pietrasanta, where he creates works in marble sourced from the quarries of the Apuan Alps. In addition to marble, Cartwright also works with ancient wooden elements and reclaimed materials.

His production includes monumental sculptures, sound installations, and site-specific interventions, with a research focus on the relationship between form, matter, space, and perception. His works employ a contemporary visual language, with particular attention to dialogue with architectural and landscape contexts.

His works have been exhibited in international institutional and gallery settings, including the Asia Society Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, the SWAB Barcelona Art Fair, and Australia House.

He has also presented installations and performances in Italy, Germany, and Finland, and has participated in international artist residencies across Europe and the United States. His works are included in private collections throughout Europe, the United States, Asia, and Australia.
